Under the New Covenant, We Have More Than the Victory

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." (Romans 8:37)

We need to see that Jesus is taking care of us in every challenge.

Whatever comes our way, we need to rest assured that God has granted us consummatte victory thorugh His Son.

Look at how David faced Goliath.

First, he spoke very confidently:

"And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine." (1 Samuel 17:32)

The word "fight" is not strong enough. David actually said: " I will devour this Philistine."

David didn't go against this evil with the hopes of sparring. He intended to win!

And win big.

See how Goliath taunted David:

"And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field." (1 Samuel 17:44)

David went further:

"45Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel." (1 Samuel 17:45-46)

Notice that David declared that he stood before Goliath in the name of the LORD.

When you have the Creator and Redeemer on your side, who can be against you? (Romans 8:31)

Notice also that David calls on God as LORD, referencing the Covenant name.

Today, we live under the New Covenant, in which our Daddy God declares that He will be our God, watching out for us, protecting us, ensuring our victory in every way (Hebrews 8:10-12)

David then claimed the following:

1. He would beat down Goliath
2. He would behead him
3. Using Goliath's own words, David affirmed that he would not only feed Goliath's body to the birds, but the entire Philistine army!

David was thinking big and expecting a massive victory in the name of the LORD!

Consider also that he had gathered five stones before he confronted Goliath:

"40And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine." (1 Samuel 17:40)

The five stones were not in case David missed his target.

David was planning on taking down Goliath's four brothers, too!

Today, our champion is Christ Jesus, the Beloved Son of God, and we are beloved in Him!

"To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved." (Ephesians 1:6)

and then:

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

and finally:

"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)

Rest in the knowledge that you are God's Beloved. See the challenges ahead of you as something to devour, and think big, because God has given your more than the victory.
