"41And Jesus answered and
said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42But one thing is
needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from
her." (Luke 10: 41-42)
Jesus is the one thing needed.
In fact, He is everything:
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Hebrews 13: 8)
The King James translation saw fit to remove the linking verb, since Jesus is the Life of all things, to begin with:
"Jesus saith unto him, I
am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14: 6)
Paul presents the grandest presentation of Jesus Christ, fully God with all fullness within Him:
"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16For by him were
all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17And he is before
all things, and by him all things consist. 18And he is the
head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead;
that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19For it pleased
the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20And, having made
peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto
himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things
in heaven." (Colossians 1: 15-20)
Jesus Christ is everything, and through Him we live:
"For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own
poets have said, For we are also his offspring." (Acts 17: 28)
He provides us all things:
"31What shall we then
say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32He that spared not
his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also
freely give us all things?" (Romans 8: 31-32)
In Christ we have our strength:
"13I can do all
things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4: 13)
Jesus is the one needful thing. Believe on Him and receive from Him.
