Fear is something that we do not fight, for all sin has been punished at the Cross, and Satan defeated once and for all (Colossians 2: 13-15)
In fact, it is God's perfect love that casts out all fear (1 John 4: 18) -- this is not our love, but God's love.
If we are tempted to fear, let us rest in the knowledge that our sin leads God's grace to abound all the more in our lives:
"Moreover the law
entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much
more abound:
"That as sin hath
reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal
life by Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 5: 20-21)
Now, as we are filled with God's grace by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have received His life in us, and therefore sin no longer reigns over us:
"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but
under grace." (Romans 6: 14)
Grace is the best teacher on living out what Christ is living in us:
"For the grace of God
that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
"Teaching us that,
denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and
godly, in this present world;
"Looking for that
blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus
Christ;" (Titus 2: 11-13)
The last verse tells us what we are called to do in this live. We do not fight with our sin, which has no dominion over our lives, but instead we are called to focus on our Savior, living and working in us:
"Jesus answered and said
unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (John 6: 29)
and
"Looking unto Jesus
the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before
him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of
the throne of God." (Hebrews 12: 2)
If we have fear in our bodies and minds, let us rest in Christ and His Work, our hearts established in His grace (Hebrews 13: 9)
