Called to Liberty

"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another." (Galatians 5: 13)

Jesus did not come to bring us a different form of bondage.

He came to set us free:

"I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

7To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house." (Isaiah 42:6-7)

and also

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;" (Isaiah 61: 1)

Jesus brings us liberty, and gives us freedom in Himself:

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8: 32)

and then

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8: 36)

This liberty is granted to us in Christ Jesus through His Spirit today:

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (2 Corinthinas 3: 17)
